Analysis of students’ mathematical representation in solving mathematics problem from the perspective of adversity quotient
Keywords:
adversity quotient, mathematical representation, mathematics problemAbstract
This study aims to describe students' mathematical representation abilities in terms of Adversity Quotient. This type of research used qualitative descriptive research approach. The subjects in this study were 30 class seventh graders of MTs Sulamul Huda Ponorogo. The instruments used in this study were the Adversity Response Profile (ARP) questionnaire, test questions for mathematical representation abilities, and interview guidelines. Methods of data collection obtained from the results of mathematical representation ability tests and interviews. The data was analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. The results of this study are that Climber or high AQ students can solve the problems given correctly and can fulfill the indicators of verbal representation, visual representation, and mathematical expression. Whereas Camper or AQ students are able to solve the problems given but only fulfill the indicators of verbal representation and mathematical expressions. The latter on Quitter students or low AQ, students are unable to solve the problems given and students can only fulfill Visual representation indicators.
